Description

These two attractive public gardens, with plenty of tree and shrub cover, are linked by a section of former railway embankment. The embankment continues to the east of Park Avenue, where it is known as Palace Gates.

Wildlife

Avenue Gardens and Nightingale Gardens both have good selections of mature trees, including ash, poplars, cherry, oak, false acacia, whitebeams and lime. The former railway embankment between the two gardens is wooded with oak and sycamore, with an occasional field maple. The shrub layer is mainly hawthorn, with the ground cover dominated by bramble.
