This site contains two adjoining woodlands, Queen Mary’s Woodland and Wellfield Plantation, which form one of the most significant areas of woodland in the borough of Sutton. It also contains an area of diverse chalk grassland and a linear woodland along Woodmansterne Road. Management of Queen Mary’s Woodland from 2015/16 onwards has concentrated on diversifying the woodland’s structure and assemblage of habitats. This includes the removal of 0.5ha of invasive cherry laurel, re-seeding with a woodland mix, the creation of a pond, widening of paths to increase light levels and the installation of a new path and interpretation boards.

Description
Wildlife
Both woodlands are dominated by sycamore and ash, with Queen Mary's having several large tree-throws from the 1987 storm. Recent new planting has increased the spread and diversity of shrubs and trees across Queen Mary's Woodland especially along cleared areas, path side and around the entrances to the woodland. There are four small chalk grasslands, all subject to hay cutting and/or sheep grazing to preserve the diverse array of wildflowers, including small scabious, rough hawkbit and marjoram. The linear woodland along Woodmansterne Road provides a thin strip of sycamore and grass used by some bird and insect species.Facilities
