Borough: Wandsworth
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 3.02 ha

Description

This site is made up of two distinct areas. The Pleasance is an attractive small park. Putney Park lane is an unsurfaced green lane providing a valuable wildlife corridor between Putney Heath and the area just south of Putney Common.

Wildlife

The Pleasance boasts a good range of mature trees providing habitat for common birds. The margins of Putney Park Lane are mainly grassland with a variety of wayside flowers, including pellitory-of-the-wall and yellow corydalis. Along the length of the lane is a range of native and non-native mature scattered trees. There are patches of regenerating elm scrub at the southern end and these play host to the rare white-letter hairstreak butterfly.
