Big Wood
Borough: Barnet
Space type: Public woodland
Area: 7.26 ha
Address: Oakwood Road, Hampstead Garden Suburb, NW11 7XR

Big Wood and Little Wood are remnants of more extensive woods that used to cover the area thousands of years ago. Big Wood is well known for having the largest number of Wild Service trees in Barnet, forming a close knit competing canopy with the mature oaks. The new gate at the Temple Fortune Hill entrance was donated by residents to commemorate the 29 Hampstead Garden Suburb residents who died in the Second World War. It replaces an earlier gate, and stands on an ancient 8th century boundary. The sites are a Local Nature Reserve (LNR).
