Castle Hill is a Local Nature Reserve. The site is largely covered by long-established woodland that is mainly oak and hazel, with varied ground flora include bluebell, wood anemone and wood sedge. There are breeding birds such as jay, great spotted woodpecker and song thrush. Bonesgate Stream runs along its western edge. The site is also a scheduled monument due to an earthwork enclosure just to the east of Bonesgate Stream, believed to the remains of an enclosed hunting lodge within the bounds of Chessington Park, a medieval deer park.
