Within our data management systems we are able to partition records for legally protected and other designated species. It is useful for data users involved in the planning process to be aware of these records to encourage further investigation.

Protection designations
Protection designations that we can highlight are:
- EC Habitats Directive (Annexes II and IV)- EC Birds Directive (Annex I)
- Conservation (Natural Habitats) Regulations 1994 (Schedules 2 & 4)
- Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended; Schedules 1, 5 & 8)
- Protection of Badgers Act 1992
- National or London Biodiversity Action Plan priority species
Other designations
- Red Data Book
- Nationally rare, scarce or notable
- Species of Conservation Concern for London
Confidential species
Our fundamental principle is to make all records available, but in some cases it is appropriate to limit the detail we disclose.
We have developed a list of species, in conjunction with expert recorders, for which full location information are not passed on to non-partners. These are often species that are rare or under threat of persecution.
