This site is a large expanse of grassland, much of it acidic, with areas of scrub and woodland at the edges. Considering how close the Common is to the centre of Woolwich, it is surprisingly wild. The northern part is used by circuses and fairs, and kept close-mown but here the acidic grassland is most easily observed. The Capital Ring and Green Chain Walk cross the site.

Description
Wildlife
The grassland is dominated by common bent, with sheep's fescue, crested dog's-tail and meadow-grasses frequent. Typical acid grassland wildflowers include sheep's sorrel, bird's-foot-trefoil and cat's-ear. Knotted clover, which is scarce in London, occurs in one area. Bulbous buttercup and oxeye daisy are found in more neutral areas, along with smooth tare. The whole Common is managed as a meadow, encouraging large populations of butterflies, grasshoppers and other insects.Facilities
