St Paul’s Green is a small, attractive greenspace on Hammersmith Road, near Hammersmith bus station, which was once part of the grounds of St Paul’s Boys School. It was developed for public use after the school moved to Barnes in the 1968. A separate walled garden, once the headmaster’s garden, is now managed as a community wildlife garden by MIND.

Description
Wildlife
The site has fine mature plane trees shading almost all of the garden by mid-summer. Hedges and shrubbery around the sides provide some cover for birds. In the community wildlife garden tangles of bramble, elder and roses are allowed to grow up into thickets, and creepers such as ivy and Russian vine scramble over the walls, creating further nesting opportunities for small birds. Like many sites with a long history as a garden, the grass here has a fair variety of wild flowers, especially in the walled section where the grass management is more relaxed. As well as masses of daisies, bulbous and meadow buttercups, selfheal, garden bluebells and dove's-foot crane's-bill can all be found here, plus swine cress growing alongside paths. The site supports a good variety of nesting birds, such as blackbird, starling, wren and great tit. Greenfinch and chaffinch have also been spotted and song thrush nested here a few years ago.Facilities
