Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Myrna Close Valley
Borough: Merton
Grade: Borough Grade II
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 2.23 ha

Description

The valley is a remnant of the disused Merton Park to Tooting railway (see also Merton Park Green Walks), reclaimed by nature since the line was closed in 1975. Today, much of it is a Local Nature Reserve managed by the London Wildlife Trust and local Friends group. Beyond the reserve, the site continues along the line of the footpath to the Christchurch Road roundabout.

Wildlife

In the reserve there is grassland, scrub, woodland, a small stream and two ponds, which support brooklime alongside other wetland plants.
