Wildlife

A popular and attractive park lying across the Borough boundary with Merton and containing several habitats of significant nature conservation value. Two small areas of woodland, one of which is in Wandsworth, appear on very old maps and contain species, including Midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata), wood millet (Millium effusum) and bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) indicative of ancient woodland. Breeding birds in the woodland include spotted flycatcher. The parkland contains numerous very old oak (Quercus robur) trees, which provide important habitat for invertebrates, fungi and hole-nesting birds. The Merton section of the park contains additional habitats, including a lake, which supports a diverse community of waterfowl.
