The site is a small birch wood and an area of sandy waste ground. Access is on public footpaths only, and there are areas of bare sandy soils including some steep banks along the footpath which runs the length of the southern edge of the site. The whole area is regularly disturbed by motorcycle scrambling and is under threat from sand extraction from the nearby quarry.
