Description

This is a small area of young woodland, scrub and rough grassland, on the northern edge of Parkfield Recreation Ground. The wood is freely accessible from the recreation ground, and is managed for nature conservation by the council. The adjoining Southborough School uses it for environmental education.

Wildlife

The canopy is dominated by pedunculate oak and silver birch, with a shrub layer of blackthorn and hawthorn, which also form patches of scrub. More open areas are dominated by false oat-grass, with a few common wildflowers, including lesser stitchwort and common bird's-foot-trefoil.
