Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Wormholt Park
Borough: Hammersmith and Fulham
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 2.67 ha

Description

This is a popular and attractive park in the White City area. It consists mainly of open grassland, but has plenty of mature trees and a broad strip of shrubs around the perimeter. The park has a children’s playground and all weather games area for the more energetic visitor.

Wildlife

Sycamore, common lime, hybrid black poplar and silver birch are the most common trees. The shrubbery is tall and dense in places and contains a good proportion of native species, so it represents excellent habitat for birds. Blackbird, wren and blue tit are thought to breed in or nearby the park, and chaffinch and song thrush were also recorded in a recent survey. Swifts can be seen feeding overhead in summer. Where the grass is not too closely cut, a few wildflowers can be found.
