Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Pinner New Cemetery Footpath
Borough: Harrow
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (part of site)
Area: 0.33 ha

Description

This attractive footpath runs along the north side of Pinner New Cemetery, connecting George V Avenue with Wakehams Hill. The footpath is always accessible but entry to the allotments is restricted to key-holders.

Wildlife

Alongside the path is a wide strip of native hedgerow trees and shrubs. It retains a pleasant rural feel, and the hedge includes dog-rose, hawthorn, oak and a number of large field maples. Some of the hawthorns contain dead wood, which is likely to be of particular value to a range of beetles and other insects. An adjacent small triangular allotment site is well maintained, and the patches of native vegetation around its edges blend with the adjacent footpath habitats.
