Local Wildlife Site

Barnsbury Square is a very attractively laid-out square with a high density of trees, almost enough to merit it being termed a ‘woodland park’. The square has strong Roman associations, being built on the site of a military camp used by Suetonius Paulinus before his decisive victory over Boudicca (Boadicea), Queen of the Icenii in AD61. Several roman artefacts were found when the square was originally landscaped, including bronze arrowheads and part of a standard belonging to the 20th Legion.
