Description

This site is situated on steep slopes which were once part of a chalk quarry. It is mainly woodland with a few small patches of semi-cultivated grassland and tall wildflowers.

Wildlife

The dominant tree species here is sycamore. Other trees include ash, silver birch, apple and Turkey oak. The scrub layer comprises English and wych elms, elder, blackthorn and hawthorn. Below this is a ground covering of ivy, bramble, nettle, hops and other mostly non-woody plants.Most of the common garden and parkland birds occur here but most notable is the declining spotted flycatcher, which has bred.
