Three Kings Pond is the oldest of the ponds on the historical area of Mitcham Common. Situated within the point where the old roads of Commonside East and Commonside West meet, it almost certainly originated as a village pond to enable horses and cattle to take a drink. On a map of 1685, it was shown as Heathernderry Pond but now takes its name from The Three Kings public house, just across the road on Commonside East.The pond has a concrete and brick surround, dating from just before the First World War. Arriving via Fair Green (Mitcham’s main shopping area), this is the first place to sit and relax, and perhaps feed the ducks; one of the main reasons for its popularity.The pond was dredged in 2006, and new landscaping carried out around it.
