Wildlife

The site is bisected by a busy main road. The eastern area is Revesby Road Wood and is the more natural of the two, with extensive areas of rough grassland including Yorkshire fog, Timothy, cut-leaved cranesbill, common knapweed, cow parsley, red campion, teasel, common vetch and hoary cress. Large areas have been planted with native scrub species to restore the original pre-War woodland. Many fine oak trees are found here, as well as ash, hornbeam, whitebeam and a rare wild service-tree. Middleton Open Space is west of the road and contains similar habitats although it lacks the mature trees. The site is good for birds: great spotted woodpecker, mistle thrush, whitethroat, goldfinch and many other common birds are present, along with butterflies such as small white, common blue, peacock and brimstone.
